GTA 6 Leaks
GTA 6 leaks have appeared online, showing footage of the game in action, with developer Rockstar not publicly acknowledging the clips

The leaks of Grand Theft Auto 6 footage have been described as a nightmare scenario for Rockstar, the game's developer. According to BBC Newsbeat, the leaks appeared online a few weeks ago, ahead of a special Netflix preview of the game.
Rockstar's parent company, Take Two Interactive, has launched legal proceedings in a New York court regarding the leaks, demanding that Microsoft-owned site GitHub and chat app Discord turn over the user details of accounts thought to be sharing copyrighted material.
Impact on the game
The leaks have been met with a mixed reaction from fans and experts, with some describing it as a nightmare scenario for the company. Obbe Vermeij, a former Rockstar developer, says that while the leaks are unfortunate, they are not entirely unexpected.
Vermeij, who worked on major GTA titles including GTA 3, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas, says that Rockstar's games have grown bigger and more complex over the years, making it harder to keep things under wraps. He notes that the company's culture has always been to keep things secret, which makes launch day more exciting for fans.
Expert opinions
Video game journalist Wesley Yin-Poole, director of news at IGN, says that the apparent leaks will be tough for the game's developers. He notes that GTA 6 is an enormous endeavor, built over the course of a decade with thousands of people involved.
Yin-Poole says that there is a huge amount of skepticism about the stated motivation of the group behind the leaks, who claim to be acting in the interests of players. He believes that most people think the leaks are about money, rather than a genuine attempt to expose anti-consumer practices.
Release details
The game is due to be released on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a PC release expected at a later date. Despite the leaks, experts believe that they will have little impact on the game's success. Vermeij says that people will have forgotten about the leaks by the time the game comes out, and Yin-Poole agrees, saying that the leaks will become a footnote in the history of GTA 6's development.
