Siobhan Finneran returns as prison chaplain Marie-Louise O'Dell in the third season of the BBC drama Time, alongside new and returning cast members. David Tennant joins the series as veteran prison officer Bobby Bailey, with Vinette Robinson starring as Erica. The season's first episode is set to premiere on BBC One at 9pm on 10 October.

Other confirmed cast members include Louis McCartney and Ollie McNulty as teenage offenders James and Peter, and Chukwubuikem Molokwu as Christopher. Jo Joyner will star as Nicola, while Daniel Ryan plays custodial manager Freddie Jennings. Finneran's character is the only one to have appeared in all three seasons of the anthology series, which previously starred Sean Bean and Stephen Graham in its first run and Jodie Whittaker, Tamara Lawrance, and Bella Ramsey in its second.

Series context and setting

Time is a drama series set within a Young Offenders Institution. Season three explores the struggles of teenage offenders and the personal crises of the staff who look after them.

The synopsis questions whether James can face his broken parents after an act of violence. It also asks if Peter will tell the truth about the death of an innocent man. An unlikely friendship forms between Peter and James.

Meanwhile, the staff grapple with their own demons. "Prison Chaplain Marie-Louise comes to the YOI having lost her faith," the synopsis reads. Veteran officer Bailey knows more about the circumstances that led to a tragedy. "When tragedy strikes in the prison, Marie-Louise clashes with veteran officer Bailey, a man in the midst of his own crisis."
