Maya Jama is one of 21 celebrities competing in the second season of Celebrity Traitors, which premieres on Thursday 1 October at 8pm on BBC One. The presenter and broadcaster is leveraging her public persona as a strategic asset, aiming to surprise viewers with her unpredictability in the high-stakes game of deception.

Her self-awareness about public perception

Maya Jama acknowledges she doesn’t know how people perceive her. She contrasts her Love Island persona with her radio presence. People who only watched her on Love Island would see her walking in, having a chat and sending people home. She noted those viewers might see her as warm but direct. People who listened to her on the radio might have a better idea of what she is actually like.

I've thought about this quite a lot because I honestly don't know what people's perception of me is, said Jama.

Her approach to the game and personal traits

She discusses her strength and weakness in connecting with people. Her ability to get on with people easily is both her biggest strength and biggest weakness. Jama said she can be warm but also quite direct when needed. She admitted she tends to overshare. In the game you probably need to keep a few things to yourself, she noted, acknowledging that oversharing could be a disadvantage.

Her shift from Faithful to embracing the Traitor role

Maya Jama initially leaned toward being a Faithful. She then decided to go all in. She sees the show as a chance to play a villain. Jama expressed interest in playing a villain or evil character, opposite to her real self.

I'd love to play someone who's the complete opposite of me, a proper villain or someone really evil, she said. This might be her chance to test playing that role.
