adidas will officially launch its Futurecool sneaker in April 2027. The company is offering exclusive first access to just 400 individually numbered pairs via a raffle on its CONFIRMED app starting August 28, according to a report from Dazed Digital.

The Futurecool represents a significant step in the brand's use of 3D printing. While adidas has previously used additive manufacturing for components like lattice midsoles, the Futurecool is created as a single, seamless structure. The entire shoe is 3D-printed.

Design and Technology

Alexander Taylor, SVP of Innovation Design at adidas, explained the vision behind the shoe. "Futurecool redefines what a sneaker can be, combining advanced printing technology and engineering with a design that looks and feels like nothing you have worn before," Taylor said. "It’s designed for those who want to embrace the future before it becomes mainstream."

The sneaker is built on adidas's existing Climacool platform, known for its ventilation features. The 3D-printed construction is intended to provide 360-degree airflow. Its seamless build is designed to adapt to the wearer's foot for a second-skin feel.

The design features a distinctly futuristic shape with sculpted proportions and flowing curves. The brand's signature Three Stripes are integrated into the single-piece design. The shoe is made using resin and specialised materials, which adidas claims combine the flexibility needed for daily wear with the durability of a conventional sneaker.

Release and Access

The release strategy involves two phases. The initial, highly limited release is the raffle for 400 pairs. Following this exclusive drop, the wider release of the Futurecool sneaker is scheduled for April 1, 2027.

The development follows earlier 3D-printed footwear experiments from the sportswear giant. The technology has moved from a conceptual, experimental stage in fashion to a point where products are being sold globally. Sneaker culture has historically been quick to adopt new technologies, a trend adidas is banking on with this launch.

The report notes that while futuristic fashion once seemed limited to movie concepts, like Cher's digitised wardrobe in Clueless, current innovations are surpassing those earlier imaginations. The Futurecool sneaker is positioned at the forefront of this shift, aiming to bring advanced manufacturing directly to consumers. The raffle on the CONFIRMED app is the first step in that process.
