Franchise History

Power Rangers has undergone several reinventions over the decades since the popular Mighty Morphin team became a cultural phenomenon back in the 90s, but nothing that has quite seen the same success as the original lineup. First arriving in 1993, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers combined colorful superhero action, martial arts, giant monsters, and the unforgettable Zords into a formula that quickly became one of the decade's defining franchises.

From there, the property continued reinventing itself for new generations, with some attempts going much further than simply swapping out Ranger teams and costumes. The 2017 Power Rangers movie attempted to reboot the original Mighty Morphin story as a more grounded, big-budget superhero film, although its planned sequels never materialized.

More recently, Netflix became a major home for the franchise, with Power Rangers Dino Fury, the 30th-anniversary special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, and Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, while the franchise has also seen a host of unique video games in recent years as well.

After more than 30 years, Power Rangers continues searching for the right way to reimagine its most recognizable heroes, and the franchise will attempt to do just that again with an upcoming new release on August 28 (via X).

Power Rangers: Legacy Wars is expanding its enormous roster once again, with Scott Truman, the RPM Red Ranger, officially joining the mobile fighting game on August 28. The new addition brings the leader of the Power Rangers RPM team into the action as an Attacker-class warrior, fitting Scott’s aggressive, frontline fighting style and reputation as the decisive leader of the Ranger Operators.

Scott originally appeared in 2009’s Power Rangers RPM, where he was played by Eka Darville. Set in a post-apocalyptic future largely conquered by the Venjix computer virus, RPM developed a devoted following thanks to its darker story and unusually character-driven approach. Scott serves as the team's Red Ranger, officially designated Ranger Operator Series Red, while struggling with the death of his brother and his complicated relationship with his father, Colonel Truman.

His August 28 arrival also lines up with Power Rangers Day, with Legacy Wars currently advertising a special login calendar and additional rewards for the celebration. Scott joins fellow RPM characters Ziggy Grover, the Green Ranger, and Gemma, the Silver Ranger, giving the fan-favorite chapter an even more expanded role in the game.
